The Botany of the Spices in Golden Milk
What Is Golden Milk Composed of?
The Golden Milk Blend is composed of turmeric, Ceylon cinnamon, ginger, and black pepper. Ceylon cinnamon, originating from Sri Lanka, is the bark of the cinnamon tree, a tree of the Lauraceae family, coming from the same family as the avocado tree or laurel.Cinnamon, Cinnanomum zeylanicum, whose harvesting requires great precision, comes from a tree that can reach between 10 to 15 meters in height. The new branches are cut and stripped of their fragrant outer bark. Once these are dried, they become cinnamon sticks that can either be used directly in cooking or ground to produce cinnamon powder. The cinnamon tree is mainly cultivated in Sri Lanka, but also in other tropical regions of the world.
Ginger comes from a rhizome, just like turmeric, which it closely resembles. Belonging to the Zingiberaceae family, its botanical name is Zingiber officinale.
Turmeric is a rhizome of a beautiful orange-yellow color, with peppery and musky aromas. It comes from a tropical plant from the same family as ginger. Its production is long and tedious: after cleaning and cutting it, it is boiled to remove its skin, then once peeled and dried, it is ground into powder.
The History of Golden Milk
Golden milk is a traditional Indian drink, advocated by Yogi Bajhan, the master of Kundalini Yoga, who claimed that golden milk increased flexibility. He recommended doing a 40-day cure, every morning, to fully feel its effects on the body and mind. As you can see, golden milk is not just a beverage, but a way of life!Allergen | Absence |
