Homemade Speculoos Recipe

Create deliciously fragrant homemade speculoos with this simple recipe. Perfect to enjoy with tea, coffee, or as part of your favorite desserts.

Preparation

 

Prepare the speculoos base:

    • In a bowl, mix the butter with both types of sugar (white and brown) using an electric mixer until creamy.
    • Add the egg and continue mixing to combine thoroughly.

 

Mix the dry ingredients:

    • In a separate bowl, sift the flour.
    • Add the speculoos spice mix and stir to distribute the spices evenly.

 

Form the dough:

    • Gradually incorporate the flour and spice mixture into the butter, sugar, and egg mixture.
    • Knead by hand or with a spatula until a homogeneous dough forms.
    • Shape the dough into a ball, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 1 hour.

 

Shape the biscuits: 

    • Remove the dough from the fridge and roll it out on a lightly floured surface with a rolling pin.
    • Cut out shapes using cookie cutters (rectangles, hearts, stars, or your preferred designs).
    • Place the biscuits on a baking tray lined with parchment paper, leaving some space between them to prevent sticking during baking.

 

Baking: 

    • Preheat the oven to 165 °C (convection mode).
    • Bake the biscuits for 10 minutes, until lightly golden.

 

Cooling and storage: 

    • Remove the biscuits from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack.
    • Once fully cooled, store them in an airtight container, away from light and moisture, to maintain their crunchiness and flavor.

    • Use them as a base for gourmet desserts: cheesecake, crumble, or a tiramisu twist.
