Kaïa: Specialist in Tunisian Olive Oil

Kaïa: Specialist in Tunisian Olive Oil

A Story of Ancestral Expertise

Kaïa is a Tunisian company founded by Sarah Ben Romdane, a passionate producer and harvester committed to preserving a family tradition passed down through generations since 1850. This deep connection with the land and history makes Kaïa an ambassador of a millennia-old tradition.

The name "Kaïa" itself is rich with meaning, combining the Arabic words "Rokhaya" and "Ruqia," which mean "enchantment" and "elevation," respectively, illustrating the company's ambition to produce olive oil that elevates the senses and honors the Tunisian terroir.

What is Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil?

Organic extra virgin olive oil is the highest quality oil, produced through natural methods, without chemicals or pesticides. In the case of Kaïa, this is cold-pressed oil, which ensures the preservation of both flavors and nutritional benefits. Kaïa offers a monovarietal oil made exclusively from Chemlali olives, carefully hand-picked from century-old olive trees. Sarah Ben Romdane oversees every step of production, from harvest to bottling, with the help of over 50 women working on the family estate. This extra virgin olive oil, the result of ancestral expertise, is traceable and made with deep love and respect for tradition.

A Tunisian Terroir Olive Oil

Tunisia is the third-largest olive oil producer in the world, and Kaïa is deeply rooted in this land rich in history and agriculture. With two olive-growing estates in Tunisian soil, Kaïa produces authentic olive oil that reflects the unique character of the region. The Ben Romdane family, the first Tunisian family to export olive oil to the United States, brings this production to the international stage while highlighting the unique qualities of Tunisian terroir.

The Chemlali: An Olive with Unique Flavor

Kaïa specializes in the exclusive use of Chemlali olive varieties. These olives, harvested mid-season in November, are mild and fruity, offering delicate aromas of green almond. They are ideal for producing a finishing olive oil that adds character to dishes while maintaining a perfect balance between fruitiness and bitterness. According to Sarah Ben Romdane, a good olive oil should slightly tingle on the palate and offer a subtle marriage of sweetness and intensity.

Ethical and Organic Production

Kaïa's values are deeply rooted in ethics and sustainability. The company is committed to respecting its terroir and practicing fair and organic agriculture. For Kaïa, it is not only about producing premium olive oil, but also doing so responsibly, respecting the land, the olive trees, and the people who contribute to this production. The organic approach and ethical commitment are at the heart of Sarah Ben Romdane's mission, who seeks to proudly represent Tunisian heritage while meeting the expectations of modern consumers concerned with the origin and environmental impact of their products.
