Only the diverse fruits of Piper can be called "Pepper." Ethnobotany broadens this designation to include spicy and pungent berries. We group them under the name "peppery berries."

According to the official classification established in the 18th century and confirmed by Swedish naturalist Linné, only the fruits of Piper have the right to be named "pepper". On the other hand, the ethnobotanist viewpoint extends the name pepper to the pungent and spicy berries, which can be crushed and used in cooking. At Terre Exotique, we have chosen to gather them under the name of "pepper berries".
